on Nov 9th, 2011Three simple ways to save cash!
After a tough recession that saw may Brits cutting back on things like holidays and nights out, having to take out instant payday loans to get by and make ends meet, as well as many people all over the country losing their jobs or seeing their hours slashed, it is no wonder that the average person in the UK has debt of around £2,000 – not including their mortgage.
Many of us are starting to recover and getting new jobs, but are still left feeling financially wounded and more careful than ever, fearing that things can go wrong just as quick as they did a few years back.
Here are three really easy ways in which you can make cut-backs, enabling you to put some cash away into savings providing you with a little more security for the future:
• Slash those phone bills at home
There was a time when almost every person with a home telephone line in the UK was with BT. Sticking with the same land-line provider might seem to be convenient but it could be costing you more than you think. Nowadays, there are a wealth of land-line providers who could be up to £100 per year cheaper than the service provider you are currently using. This can especially be the case if you like to have those extra TV channels, as well as additional services such as internet access in your home. There are now many companies available who will now provide packages where you get several services for one low price. Using the Internet to do a quick online comparison for home telephone providers will enable you to see who is the cheapest in your area, enabling you to make some savings.
• Ditch the contract mobiles and switch back to Pay as You Go
Remember the good old days when you used to be in control of your mobile phone bill, and simply topped up when you needed to? Recently it seems many of us are too tempted to agree to a contract when buying a mobile phone, which could see you spending at least £50 per month on calls or texts. Switching back to Pay as you Go can help you control exactly how much money you will be spending on your phone calls and texts. If you set yourself a specific limit each month which is lower than your average monthly phone bill, after 12 months you will see your outgoings are lower.
• Stock up at the supermarket
With so many supermarkets all over the country, many are competing against each other for your custom, thus you can actually use this to your advantage. As our favourite supermarkets compete against each other, there will always be offers available to you. If you see offers such as buy one get one free, especially on perishable items like tinned food or frozen goods that will last a while, take advantage of them and stock up as doing so could see your next shopping bill reduced, thus saving your money each time you go shopping.
